After not reading for so many years, my mother handed me a trilogy from Nora Roberts, THE STARS OF MITHRA. I breezed through those three books in no time at all. After them, I started to read everything Nora had written at the time, either buying them or getting them from the local library. From there I found Christina Dodd, Elizabeth Lowell, Linda Howard and others and loved their work. I found that I liked books that had more than just the romance. I liked the suspense aspect and the way they were able to form some mystery in their stories. I like to be kept on the edge of my seat, so to speak, and make it hard to put down the book. Taking that into consideration, it became easier to write what I liked to read. My daughters also brought my attention to the regency period writers, which I find entertaining to read. Although for me and my writing and storytelling, I would rather stay in the era which I know and not have to research every facet of that time, like clothing, homes, furniture and such.
I haven’t regretted that decision. I have had a lot of people tell me that I write a really good story and to keep at it. It was those people, friends, family and fans, that prompted me to take the first book, “The Retreat” and build it into a series. It took a lot of thought, re-reading the book itself and kicking ideas around to see if I could come up with a story line for each of the Shadows, as we started to call them. After creating the second book, “The Rescue” to the series, I was able to formulate another one, “The Relocation”, which then started me on a path for the next two books, which I am still working on. I will let you know when those will be ready for publication and who is involved in those stories.
